Afghan woman overcomes obstacles to become an Olympic boxer

Ten years ago, what Sadaf Rahimi is doing would be punishable by death. In fact, the dusty, dingy gym she trains in used to be an arena in which Afghan women were executed. Now she shares the space with her countrywomen who are using their new-found freedom to pursue dreams previously stifled by the Taliban.

CNN reports that Sadaf is training to compete in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. There is a good chance that Sadaf will not fare well in international competition. However, she has become a role model for thousands of other women in her homeland. If just one Afghan girls uses sport to carve out a better life for herself, Sadaf will have achieved a victory that's bigger than any knockout.

Her story is incredibly inspirational. Check out video of Sadaf below.
